A great place for Botswana Safaris is a UNESCO World Heritage Site known as Tsodilo. In the year 2001 it was named a heritage site due to the fact that there are over 4,500 rock paintings found there. This area is located in the Kalahari Desert. It has very importance significance not only to the country, but to many of the tribes who reside near it. One of the greatest things about this area is the fact that tours taken through are able to see the actual home and living arrangements of many people from countless years ago, as well as utensils and tools that were used.
The island known as Kasikili is found on the Chobe River, in between the border of Botswana and Namibia. The fact that the island exists in land lock is a great reason for Botswana Safaris. Due to the fact that there is constant flooding the island has no permanent residents. This has made it a virtual paradise for wildlife though. However, one of the most interesting facts about this island is that during many times in the year it is completely submerged by flooding. This means the island disappears completely at certain points, unable to be seen by anybody.
The Sua Pan is found near the small village of Sowa in Botswana. This is actually one of the three different salt pans located in the Makgadikgadi region. The other two pans are the Nxai Pan and the Nwetwe Pan. One of the most interesting things about this salt pan is that it turns into a seasonal lake during certain parts of the year. Many sodium carbonate operations take place in this unique lake during these times. One of the most important finds within the lake and surrounding area were the discoveries of stone tools used long ago by ancestors of those who live by the lakes now.
