Tour to Litchfield NP

26.September 2008 - Litchfield NP

My tour to Litchfield National Park took me to many waterholes to swim in. One was clearer and nicer as the one before.
One of the walks brought us to a giant termite mount. It was huge!!! Three or four metres high. Only a few meters fourther along the walk we came to a field of magnetic termite mounts. Magnetic? Yes! They were build in exact north-south direction to avoid the hot sun during midday. At sunrise, the sun comes from east and warmes the mounts up and at sunset the sun gives them again some warming for the night. That way, the termite-homes never heat that much up as our class-rooms during summer :-)
